About the Congress
The 23rd IIR International Congress of Refrigeration is the most important and prominent forthcoming event of the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR, www.iifiir.org).
The International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) is a scientific and technical intergovernmental organization enabling pooling of scientific and industrial know-how in all refrigeration fields on a worldwide scale. The Institute unites 61 member countries on all continents, nearly 500 experts and 600 corporate and private members. In 2008, the Institute celebrated its centenary.
The 23rd IIR International Congresses of Refrigeration will target both the industrial and academic stakeholders. Unlike most events that address only a narrow thematic field, the Congress brings together expertise from virtually all refrigeration fields. Given the broad audience and a strict review process applied to papers, major principal scientific results, industrial trends and key developments are typically presented at IIR Congresses. This is why IIR Congresses are held just once every 4 years.
Thematic paper sessions, workshops and short courses will be organized during the 23rd Congress. An exhibition, together with numerous technical tours, will be an important part of the programme too. The technical programme will reflect the activities of all IIR’s 10 commissions:
Section A: Cryology, gas processing
Commission A1: Cryophysics, cryoengineeringCommission A2: Liquefaction & separation of gases
Section B: Thermodynamics, equipment and systems
Commission B1: Thermodynamics & transfer processesCommission B2: Refrigerating equipment
Section C: Biology and food technology
Commission C1: Cryobiology, cryomedicineCommission C2: Food science & engineering
Section D: Storage and transport
Commission D1: Refrigerated storageCommission D2: Refrigerated transport
Section E: Air conditioning, heat pumps, energy recovery
Commission E1: Air conditioningCommission E2: Heat pumps, energy recovery
IIR Congresses conform to a very high standard. For the first time in history, the 23rd Congress proceedings will be searchable using search engines such as Google Scholar, thanks to the upgrading of the IIR’s Fridoc database followed by open access to all. This will further increase the already high recognition that all papers presented at IIR Congresses receive.
Besides the technical programme, a special cultural programme will be organized during the 23rd Congress. The organizers will host a welcome party, a concert at a historic site in the city of Prague, and a gala dinner. Several sightseeing tours and visits will be available for accompanying persons.
The most recent IIR Congress in Beijing was attended by 1308 participants from 55 countries. A total of 876 papers were presented! The programme included 11 technical tours, 5 short courses and a rich cultural programme. The previous Congresses were held in Washington DC, USA, in 2003 and Sydney, Australia, in 1999.
Inspired by a number of previous successful Congresses, the organizers are striving to make the 23rd Congress in Prague a great and memorable event. Please fill in your name and e-mail address to receive regular updates and news as the Congress approaches.
